Gulfstream Park will spend $3-million on capital improvements in preparation for the track’s 2011-2012 meeting, which is scheduled to begin on December 3. Renovations will include the installation of six new Daktronics video display boards throughout the facility, approximately 250 stadium seats in the Tiki Hut area, and the addition of a Trakus system. The track will replace the video boards in the infield, three around the walking ring, and two in the north and south towers with higher resolution Daktronics LED displays. An additional LED board will be installed in the infield directly across from the Tiki Bar, which is located near the finish line for 1 1/16 mile races. Trakus is a system using wireless radio transmitters under the saddlecloths of each horse to track its position throughout a race and determine other factors such as trip distances, speeds, and margins.
