Hollywood Park Decision Due on 2013 Fall Meet

Betfair Hollywood Park is expected to announce whether it will conduct its fall meet later this year or shut down in preparation for development of the Inglewood property at the Jan. 17 California Horse Racing Board meeting at Santa Anita Park.

At its August meeting the CHRB approved racing dates for the annual late-season stand, to run Nov. 6 to Dec. 22 in 2013, on the condition that Hollywood Park commit to racing by January.

Hollywood Park has been approved for a massive commercial and residential complex on the 238-acre site by the City of Inglewood. But those plans have been on hold since 2009, stalled by a sluggish California economy that has shown signs of rebounding in recent months.

Racing board says stop betting on horses online – DailyHerald.com
http://www.dailyherald.com/article/20130115/news/701159567/

SPRINGFIELD — Two companies offering online wagering for Illinois horse racing gamblers at tracks like Arlington Park have continued accepting bets despite warnings from the Illinois Racing Board to stop.

The law allowing gambling on horses online, known as advanced deposit wagering, expired after the Illinois General Assembly failed to renew it. So the Racing Board declined to renew licenses for the four firms involved.

But, according to Illinois Racing Board Project Manager Micky Ezzo, Xpressbet and TwinSpires, two of the four formerly licensed companies for online horse race wagering in the state, are still allowing their Illinois users to place bets on horse races.

Canterbury Park’s first condition book for 2013 shows yet another increase in purses, with about $12 million to be paid out during its Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse meet.

The increases, which began last year, stem from a multi-year, $75 million joint marketing and purse-enhancement agreement between Canterbury and the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community that operates the nearby Mystic Lake Casino Hotel. In 2012, Thoroughbred purses received $1.76 million from the Mystic Lake Purse Enhancement Fund.
