ELMONT — After Saturday’s Belmont Stakes, three horses will have run in all three legs of the Triple Crown. So far, only one, Mucho Macho Man, has nothing to show for it.
“Shackleford (Preakness) won his and Animal Kingdom won his (Kentucky Derby). Now it’s our turn,” Mucho Macho Man’s trainer Kathy Ritvo said while watching her colt get a bath at Belmont Park early Thursday morning. “He deserves to win one of these races.” Mucho Macho Man is 10-1 on the Belmont morning line. After finishing a solid third in the Kentucky Derby (beaten by a neck for second by Nehro), Mucho Macho Man was sixth in the Preakness (beaten by 71/2 lengths). That would explain his inflated odds in the final leg of the Triple Crown.
