If the Illinois Racing Board approves Arlington Park’s 2012 dates request Tuesday, the February through April thoroughbred meeting at Hawthorne Race Course will be wiped off the calendar and the money from out-of-state simulcasts during the first four months of the year will go to Arlington for purses.
Arlington’s argument is that it would be in the best interests of Illinois racing to reduce the Chicago thoroughbred season to four days weekly during an April 30-Sept. 30 meeting at Arlington and a five days weekly at Hawthorne from Oct. 1-Dec. 31.
