If I’ll Have Another has spurred interest in racing with his victories in the Kentucky Derby presented by Yum! Brands (G1) and Preakness Stakes (G1), it is not showing up in the total pari-mutuel wagering figures.
Thoroughbred racing economic indicators for May show wagering dropped slightly in the month to $1,159,360,490, down 0.34% compared with the same month last year despite a 2.75% increase in race days to 523. For the year, wagering is up 1.5% to $4,708,541,276 with 1,939 race days in the first five months of both 2011 and 2012.
