Betting on thoroughbred racing in the United States was down in May for the 18th consecutive month, according to statistics released by Equibase, the official industry record keeper.
The wagering in May fell 7.8 percent to $1.16 billion. Purses fell 4.35 percent to nearly $96 million, while the 509 racing days were down 9.59 percent.
