Total wagering handle down 12.3% in August – Thoroughbred Times
Continuing a trend established in previous months, total wagering handle on U.S. races declined 12.3% to $982,144,867 for August 2011, compared with $1,119,891,052 in August 2010. Purses were down 7.7% to $96,466,461 in August, and total race dates declined 6.6% to 527. For the year, total handle is down 7.7% at $7,507,435,956.Thoroughbred racing economic indicators are provided by Equibase Co.
