Nevada gaming commissioners hope a three-week cooling off period helps the state’s Off-Track Pari-Mutuel Wagering Committee and Las Vegas Dissemination Co. reach a deal on a contract.

The LVDC, owned by John Gaughan, provides pari-mutuel wagering and horse racing simulcasts to sports books statewide. The committee is given the authority by gaming regulators to negotiate a contract on behalf of all Nevada sports books.

If no deal is reached by Aug. 24, sports books statewide will stop accepting bets on horse races and replace simulcasts of races from tracks nationwide with other televised sporting events.

The ability to place a $2 exacta at Hollywood Park, or a $10 bet on a long shot in the fifth race at Gulfstream Park at a Nevada sports book could come to an end Tuesday if sports book operators and a systems operator can’t reach a deal on a new contract.

Las Vegas Dissemination Co., which provides pari-mutuel wagering and horse racing simulcasts to sports books statewide, is negotiating with the Nevada Off-Track Pari-Mutual Wagering Committee on a new contract.

The idea of virtual horse racing isn’t new – in fact, it was previewed at past Global Gaming Expos in Las Vegas – but actually seeing one used in a casino is.

“Having a bugler give the call to post gives this a true racing-like atmosphere,” said Tom Mikovits, director of marketing for South Point Hotel Casino & Spa. “Bally came to us with this technology and we were excited to implement it.”

TVG launches racy promotion with Sutherland

Does anyone else find this in poor taste? It seems that it assumes that horse players would naturally resonate with this. Indeed, I wonder if Ms. Sutherland even knew that the QR code would be strategically placed on her picture.

A fire at Finger Lakes Casino and Racetrack Thursday morning destroyed a barn on the property but did not injure any horses or people.A cause has yet to be determined for the fire, which ignited in a barn used to house pony horses at the Farmington, New York track.

During a presentation at the 8^th International Society of Equitation Science conference, held July 18-20 in Edinburgh, Scotland, Katrina Merkies, PhD, associate professor and equine program coordinator at the University of Guelph, Ontario, Canada, explained that horses loose in a round pen react differently to calm versus nervous humans. And interestingly enough, they show the calmest reactions toward the most stressed humans.

New York’s racetracks say they contributed more in various tax and revenue-sharing funding during the first six months of the year than the casinos on the Las Vegas strip and Atlantic City combined. The New York Gaming Association, which represents nine tracks with VLT casinos, says its facilities since January contributed $620 million in state taxes, state Lottery Division payments, and various revenue-sharing pots, including purses.
