In Defense Of New Jersey Thoroughbred Racing

in Uncategorized by Michael Pizzolla Comments are off

A columnist’s answer to the Star-Ledger’s dire editorial about the state of Jersey racing. I think that with the success of this summer’s Monmouth’s meet (assuming it keeps on track) she has a few very good points. There ARE lots of slot venues right outside of New Jersey, and the addition of a casino at the Meadowlands would allow Jersey to compete.

Triple Crown Wrap Up

in Uncategorized by Michael Pizzolla Comments are off

You might find this article interesting: It’s an upbeat view of this year’s Triple Crown. One thing that struck me was not just how Black Magic: The Ultimate Handicapper Software™ (posttimedaily.com) was able to put Lookin At Lucky on top in the Derby, Super Saver on top in the Preakness (missed Drosselmeyer in the Belmont) but how it has the uncanny ability to spot a horse coming to great races. Like Summer Bird, subject of my email Rant before last year’s Belmont which Black Magic: The Ultimate Handicapper Software™ spotted as a great value bet, and Champagne d’Oro, again, subject of my pre-Belmont 2010 email Rant, who paid $81 to win. That, it seems to me, is key: Spotting the horses coming to a race, rather than those that have already run their big race.

Hail To The iPad

in Uncategorized by Michael Pizzolla Comments are off

Thought you might like to see this article from the Washington Post…I’ve got mixed feelings about this. I’ll have some shots soon of Black Magic: The Ultimate Handicapper Software™ on the iPad using it for real change: ValueCapping™ horse races!

At the White House, getting in touch with the inner circle’s inner iPads

The folks who gather early every morning in the West Wing office of White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel have something new in common these days. Practically everyone has an iPad — or will have one very soon.

Emanuel just got his, as did senior adviser David Axelrod and deputy press secretary Bill Burton. Both communications director Dan Pfeiffer and press wrangler Ben Finkenbinder have one on order. Economic adviser Larry Summerstakes his to staff meetings.

The device is the hot, new White House toy, a gizmo that is popping up around Washington but seems to be particularly in vogue at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

But the big question is: What’s on your iPad? So we asked.

A Ray Of Sunshine…Churchill Downs To Increase Purses

in Uncategorized by Michael Pizzolla Comments are off

In some quiet times for horse racing, this is most welcome. Higher purses usually means bigger fields vying for those purses.

And that leads to better value betting opportunities for those handicapping horse races as an investment. It is, after all, the betting dollars that ultimately keeps the game going and allows this increase in purses.

Retama Park Facing Closure

Not the greatest news for racing. Retama is one of my favorite tracks to play in the evenings: big fields, good prices

Moviemaking on the iPhone4

in Uncategorized by Michael Pizzolla Comments are off
Very interesting article about moviemaking with the iPhone4. The writer who tried it said that the iPhone app made the full app make sense. I’m already thinking of ways to make cool videos for you starting June 24!

Belmont TV Ratings At All Time Low

in Uncategorized by Michael Pizzolla Comments are off

The TV watching horse racing public voted about the Belmont Stakes with their feet, i.e., they didn’t watch. Maybe they were all playing the NTRA Virtual Racing game instead…
