The wild ride of the 2011 Triple Crown prep season has left Victor Espinoza all by himself as the only jockey with a previous victory in the Kentucky Derby (G1) and a mount secured for this year’s classic.

During the past four years, Calvin Borel has been the dominant Derby figure with an unprecedented run of three victories that made him famous and played a large role in placing him on the ballot for induction into the Racing Hall of Fame, but he is one of several high-profile riders who are in limbo with the first Saturday in May fewer than three weeks away.
