Santa Anita Ready To Unveil New Dirt Track

From the San Gabriel Tribune, hopefully the start of a trend:

Christmas will come 19 days early for anti-synthetic fans and horsemen Monday morning when Santa Anita unveils its new dirt main track by reopening for training in advance of its traditional Dec. 26 opener.

Barring an unforeseen amount of rain this weekend, horses will begin working over the new surface, which consists of 90 percent sand and 10 percent clay, at 4:30 a.m. and continue until 10.

Santa Anita management has asked trainers to take it easy the first few days and jog their horses rather than breezing them to allow them to get comfortable with the track and let the dirt settle.
